Liturgical Ministries:
Full
Active Participation in Liturgy
All the faithful should be led to that
full, conscious, and active participation in liturgical celebrations…by
reason of their baptism. (Sacrosanctum Conciliium)
As community, we are called to the Table of the Lord. As community
we are nourished by Eucharist so that, transformed by Christ, we can feed
the world.
Youth and children are valued members of our community and we welcome
them to ‘full, active participation’ at every Liturgy. Listed
below are some opportunities for Liturgical participation.
Family Ministry Sunday
Every 4th
Sunday we celebrate ‘Family Ministry Sunday’, an opportunity for
families to minister together during Liturgy. While this is available,
and encouraged, at every Liturgy, we make it a priority on the 4th Sunday of
each month. We do not have ‘Children’s Liturgy of the Word’ on
this 4th Sunday to enable children to see their parents, and other families
modeling Liturgical Ministry. Our children learn through our actions
more than any spoken words.
Nursery
A nursery
is usually available at the 9:00 and 11:15 liturgies. The littlest
members of our parish are rarely able to sit quietly through Liturgy, they
are simply not developmentally able to do so – they’re not ‘being
bad’. The
nursery provides them a chance to feel welcome, yet allows them to ‘be
a kid’. If you have an active, vocal, youngster this might
be a great opportunity for you. We always need volunteers for this
ministry so perhaps you’d like to occasionally help out.
Additionally, there is a glass room located in the sacred space for parents
if their children become restless and wish to keep their children with
them to celebrate liturgy.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
This is
an opportunity for children to hear the Word of God in a language they
understand. Children are dismissed for the Liturgy of the Word and return
to the greater assembly for Liturgy of Eucharist.
Volunteers take turns preparing a sermon and inviting the children to
share how The Word has touched their hearts – what it means to them
and how they might live it in their own lives. This is for children
in Kindergarten through about Fifth Grade.
